2008 Call for Presentations and Posters
Full-session and brief presentation proposals are now
complete. Poster proposals will be due on November
8.
The unique program development for our 2008 Annual Meeting, co-sponsored
with AODME, is reflected in this call for proposals.
The 2008 Annual Meeting will focus on issues that impact both undergraduate
and graduate osteopathic medical education. Program sessions will
be of three types:
- AACOM/AODME co-planned/shared sessions,
- AODME planned sessions and
- AACOM sessions
made up of peer-selected presentations
from the Call for Proposals.
Both organizations
have agreed that all sessions will be
open to any attendee.
In addition, there will be a co-sponsored poster session. The
posters will be presented initially at the
welcome reception on Wednesday evening and
remain in a spacious area where vendors
also will be located and breaks will be held.
AACOM will use AODME's method of making two
separate awards to outstanding posters, by
having the peer reviewers select the one best
poster based on the proposal abstract and using
attendee feedback to identify a viewer's award.
The peer reviewers' award tends to encourage
high-quality abstracts, while the viewers'
award focuses on the quality of the finished
poster and encourages more active involvement
by attendees.
Therefore, this call for AACOM proposals involves two deadlines,
each followed by a peer-review process. Full-session
and brief presentation proposals will be
due on September 28 and poster proposals will be due on November
8.
AACOM's Conference Planning Committee invites submission
of Presentations and Posters for the 2008 AACOM
Annual Meeting in one of the following content
areas, with emphasis on issues that impact
the full continuum of education:
| Research in OME |
|
Integration of OPP |
| Faculty/Professional Development |
|
Developing Core Competencies |
| Learning/Curriculum/Assessment |
|
Information/Instructional Technology |
| Simulation in Medical Education |
|
Recruitment/Admissions |
| Marketing and Communications |
|
Student Career Counseling |
| Leadership |
|
Student Services/Financial Aid |
Proposal Priorities for the 2008 Annual Meeting:
- New models of, and linkages for, coordination across
the educational continuum
- New approaches to significant issues that impact the full continuum
of OME
- Utilization of participant involvement formats
- Participant outcomes/take-home products
General Instructions:
- All respondents must be available to present during all dates
of the conference. Sessions will be scheduled
to maximize attendee choices.
- Presenters are limited to a maximum of two submissions, although
it is unlikely that more than one will be
selected.
- Electronic acknowledgment of receipt of submissions will be
e-mailed to the lead presenter after the
proposal is received. Electronic
notification of the final status of each proposal will be
sent to the lead presenter by a) October 19 for session
proposals, both full session and brief presentation
(which will be combined into a full session) and by b) December
14 for poster proposals.
- No honorarium, travel expense reimbursement or registration
fee reduction will be provided for any presenter
submitting through the call for presentations.
- Presenters may not directly market products or services through
either sessions or posters. Formats such
as exhibit space and literature displays
are available for medical education products
and services. If you are interested in this
opportunity, visit AACOM's exhibits and sponsorship
opportunities web
page, or call Beth Martino at 301-968-4189.
- Every attempt will be made to determine and support your A/V needs. One
meeting room will be provided for each presentation with a data projector.
You will know in advance the maximum seating capacity of the room you will
be assigned. Handouts are the responsibility of the presenter. Copying services
are available at the hotel and at a nearby Kinkos.
Formats
Participants may submit proposals in the
following three categories
(use the pull-down menu at the bottom of this page to complete a specific form
for electronically submitting a proposal in each category):
- Full Session Presentations
as a workshop,
lecture or panel, for sessions lasting 60 or 90 minutes.
- Brief Presentations
lasting not more than 15 minutes, including time for questions
(time limit strictly enforced). Several
Brief Presentations will be grouped to
form a single session. Given the limited
timeframe for this category, there should be no more than two
presenters for submissions in this category.
- Posters
Specific requirements
for posters.
Because a limited number of session proposals can be accepted,
authors with unaccepted proposals will have the opportunity to resubmit
their proposal as a poster by the later deadline.
Note: To allow for distribution of a conference ‘educational
book' that includes speaker presentations
at the April meeting, session presenters
will be expected to submit their presentation
electronically in early March.
Evaluation Criteria
At least two reviewers will read each submission. Reviewers will
include at least one expert in the field being presented: for example,
each proposal regarding basic science education will be reviewed
by at least one basic science educator as well as by members of the
planning committees.
| Presentations will
be evaluated on the following criteria: |
- Significance to osteopathic medical
education
- Contributions to the conference
theme
- Clarity and organization
|
- Creativity and originality
- Appropriateness of format
- Project track record (duration
and evaluation)
|
| |
| Final decisions
regarding acceptance will be made by
the Proposal Review Subcommittee and/or
the Conference Planning Committee based
on: |
- The above criteria
- Participation from as many institutions
as possible
- Duplication and diversity of topics
on the program
|
- Time and space available
- Reviewers’ ratings
|
Timeline
Submission deadline for full or
brief session proposals is September
28, 2007 (with notification of status
by October 19), and all submissions
must be made using AACOM's on-line
submission process. (Before submitting
your proposal, have it ready in another

of status by December 14).
