Challenges and Opportunities in Medical Education
Research
Sponsors: Council of Researchers/Society for Osteopathic
Medical Educators
The panel will focus on designing, conducting
and supporting medical education research, featuring a
variety of perspectives. Small group interaction among
attendees will be used to learn about the insights, skills
and research interests of colleagues at other
medical education programs and to generate ideas for collaborative
research projects among institutions.

Teaching and Learning Styles
Sponsor: Society of Osteopathic Medical Educators
This highly interactive session will introduce and review
some of the seminal work in the areas of teaching and
learning styles. It will also provide examples of “best
practices” focusing on developing an effective
synergy between teaching and learning styles. We invite
any osteopathic medical education program, including
continuing medical education to submit examples of best
practices that a representative would be willing to share
as part of this program. Attendees will also be asked
to generate additional ways in which the concepts discussed
can be used to maximize medical student learning outcomes.

Strategies for Educating Students on Financial Literacy
Sponsor: Council of Student Financial Aid Administrators

George Covino Debt Manager USA Funds Services
Financial literacy for graduate and professional students,

more important issue today. Most medical students need
assistance with such subjects as personal finance, budgeting,
student loans and repayment and other critical life skills.
This session will review the data supporting the need for
this help and clearly identify resources and strategies
that are available to assist eligible schools and borrowers
meet these needs now.
George Covino is a senior level management from USAFunds
Lifeskills Projects (see http://www.usafunds.org/ )
Leadership from the Council of Student Financial Aid Administrators
will facilitate audience interaction about options for
implementation of these available learning resources.
