Requirements & Evaluation Criteria for Abstracts
Submission Deadline: January 21, 2005
Submission Requirements There are four basic requirements:
A submitted abstract, relevant subject, chosen presentation type, and meeting attendance Abstract
On-Line submission of a presentation or poster requires an Abstract of
not more than 300 words.
The Abstract must include:
- Description of the problem or issue addressed
- Rationale or pertinence to medical education
- Other Important Details (e.g. AV support
required, maximum occupancy)
For presentations:
- Description of the Session's content
- Means by which audience participants will be involved (e.g. handouts, polling, etc)
- Educational Objectives / Participant Outcomes

- Description of the educational innovation or method used
- Summary of conclusions or implications

Presentation Types:
- Workshops: lasting either approximately 1 ½ hrs or approximately 3 hours. Workshops have as their goal skill development. Participation may be restricted (indicate maximum number of participants in proposal). Data projectors will be available for computer-assisted presentations, but laptops are the responsibility of the presenters.
- Lecture or Panel Discussions: lasting approximately 1 ½ hours. Lectures or panel discussions will convey information and provide an opportunity for some discussion. These may include one or more presenter on a specific topic. Panels with representation from multiple institutions are encouraged. Data projectors will be available for computer-assisted presentations, but laptops are the responsibility of the presenters.
- Brief Presentations: lasting not more than 10 minutes (followed by not more than five minutes of discussion -- time limit strictly enforced). These provide the opportunity to share information about an innovation (handouts encouraged). Several Brief Presentations will be grouped to form a single session. Data projectors will be available for computer-assisted presentations, but laptops are the responsibility of the presenters.
- Posters: Because of space limitations, posters will be peer reviewed. They must be put up no later than 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, June 23rd and not be removed before 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, June 25th. Furthermore, the first author of each poster is expected to attend the Poster Reception on Thursday evening, attend the AACOM conference and pay the applicable registration fee.

Because a limited number of proposals in each format can be accepted, authors will also be given the option of allowing the planning committees to change session formats (for example, to accept a proposal originally submitted as a Brief Presentation as a Poster, or vice versa).
Meeting Attendance:
The first author of each poster is expected to attend the AACOM conference and pay applicable registration fee. This year, a panelist or respondent will receive a $100 reduction in registration fee and a sole session speaker will have the registration fee waived; but neither will receive any other reimbursement or remuneration. Presenters should be available to present over the entire length of the conference.
Evaluation Criteria At least three reviewers will read each submission. Reviewers will include at least one expert in the field being presented: for example, each proposal regarding basic science education will be reviewed by at least one basic science educator as well as by members of the planning committees.

- significance for osteopathic medical education
- project track record (duration and evaluation)
- contributions to the conference theme

- clarity and organization
- creativity and originality
- appropriateness of format

| Final decision regarding acceptance will be made by the Proposal Review Subcommittee and/or the Conference Planning Committee based on: |
- The above criteria
- participation from as many institutions as possible
- duplication and diversity of topics on the program

- time and space available
- reviewer’s ratings
