AACOM's Inaugural Annual Meeting:
"The Future of Medical Education" |
Introduction
The Theme of AACOM's 2003 Inaugural Annual Meeting:
The Future of Medical Education
Council Meetings: Sharing Knowledge and Ideas/Moving from Good to Great
Most break-through movements, from "good to great", in the modern world happen when smart people work together and their combined energies create a positive synergy. AACOM supports the sharing of ideas and knowledge through the facilitation of our Councils. The groups have been a great success, and our members have enjoyed connecting with peers and others in the medical education field. While some of the groups hold individual meetings, we have found that Councils generally like to meet concurrently to share resources and collaborate across group boundaries. This conference will be an excellent opportunity to continue that synergy. We’re also excited about the addition of a new constituency group, the Council of Osteopathic Medical Educators.
Online Survey
An online survey of registrants’ thoughts and suggestions about future conferences will be conducted as part of registration. The results of the survey will be used to stimulate the “Planning Session” on the last day of the conference. After the meeting, we will email registrants and conduct a post-conference survey. Registrants who complete both surveys will be entered into five drawings for an AACOM-branded, leather-bound, high-tech, portfolio that has a modern design to accommodate handheld computers..
Technology/Networking Room
A Technology and Networking Room will be open throughout the meeting. AACOM’s software and protocols for creating virtual communities will be presented at the lunch session on Friday. The tech room is designed for attendees to experience and learn how to participate in virtual communites. There will be brief small-group presentations staggered at times throughout the conference to allow attendees to become familiar with the software and online communities.
Free Internet Access (for your laptop)
We will also be offering a free "Wi-Fi hotspot" in the tech room. Bring your laptop and your 802.11B wireless adapter (i.e. Apple's Airport Card), and you may browse the web or check your email. We will also have a limited number of ethernet lines to provide internet access to other laptops.
So come in and take a break as you enjoy some refreshments, chat with other attendees, connect with your laptop, and learn about virtual community software.
Council Meetings
We also anticipate that each council will “publish” its agenda on this website so that other conference participants can choose to attend the meeting of interest.
Registration
Our registration fee is in place to help offset high food costs, AV costs, and other unaviodable costs with hosting a meeting. AACOM is also spending money to subsidize each member registration. Other registration costs are being charged in accordance with their share of the total cost of the meeting. When you register, you will be asked to indicate which specific portions of the program you will attend so that we may make appropriate logistical arrangements for each conference attendee.
